Subject: Internet without phone bills - Lesson Two

We all know about those millions of pairs of little wires that go from our homes, business premises and the like. These wires always lead to something that telecommunications engineers call a switch. Us lesser mortals call it the telephone exchange.

IMHO the star topology telephone network is in fine shape and nowhere near the end of its life cycle. Exchanges, switches, hubs, whatever you like to call them, they seem pretty healthy. Modern equivalents such as the satellite and cell site have also evolved. So what is going to go?

Is it the lines, the wires or is it the radio waves? ANSWER: NO NO NO.....

No, the important bit that will soon become redundant is the notion that you need to be a telecommunications company to own and operate a public telephone exchange.

Some clues to this puzzle are next.
